Dec 15: Physicalizing Classical Text—One Day Intensive with Jeremy Cohn

shakespeare guy.jpeg

It is tempting to think working with heightened text as a vocal or intellectual exercise. However, this is misleading–if you really want both you and your audience to connect to the visceral nature of this highly specific style of performance, your physicality is the key.

In this one day intensive, led by Jeremy Cohn, you will learn strategies for creating the physical connection necessary for channeling classical text, how to embody the rhythm of verse, and the role of physical imagery in classical performance. The morning session will focus on exploring concepts and learning practical exercises, the afternoon session will feature master class style coaching on pieces brought in by workshop participants. All participants will be emailed a workbook with exercises and takeaways following the conclusion of the day.

This workshop is firmly rooted in Alexander Technique, and is also heavily influenced by Jeremy’s mentor Jon Lipsky’s work on imagistic approaches to acting and Jeremy’s classical training at LAMDA and Boston University.
